V8 Thunder Cars will receive Nordic Championship status next season and the NM title will be decided in cup form over three heats in a competition in the Midnattssolsloppet at the Drivecenter Arena in Fällfors on June 13-14.
– When the Swedish Automobile Association opened up the possibility of a Nordic championship and we saw the chance to do something together with Drivecenter Arena, says Anders Conradzon, who runs V8 Thunder Cars on behalf of Performance Automotive. There is great interest from Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish participants in this competition and we are really looking forward to contributing to a spectacular event.
And spectacular it will be. Together with Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia and Legends Cup, V8 Thunder Cars will be racing late into the night in midnight sunlight.
– We are really looking forward to welcoming V8 Thunder Cars to Drivecenter Arena and happy about a collaboration that enhances both the racing and the experience for our visitors, says Jessica Karlsson, event manager at Drivecenter Arena. We work intensively to create a wonderful folk festival with a fantastic atmosphere, where the midnight sun is the perfect setting.
Since the International Motor Sport Federation (FIA) closed down the cross-border cooperation zones in Europe a couple of years ago, there has been a lack of a common platform for the Nordic countries to operate within.
– With the Nordic championship, we are reviving an old tradition in track racing, says Claes Elofsson, chairman of the Racing Committee. It also means that we create and maintain our relationships at confederation level with the neighboring Nordic countries, something that is important for the development of racing throughout our region.
A Nordic championship title weighs heavily and there has been great interest from the participants.
– A Nordic championship title will give our national classes higher prestige and an NC-title will be something really extra to be able to show on your CV, says Anders Conradzon. We also hope that a NC will give our class a real boost in our neighboring countries and that they will experience the same growth in the number of participants as we in Sweden have done in recent years.
The competition for the Nordic Championship is not part of the national championship calendar, but is completely independent. All three heats will be streamed live on the V8 Thunder Cars YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/@v8thundercars and on www.svenskbilsporttv.se.
Registration for the NM in V8 Thunder Cars will open shortly.
